Why Do We Exist

Church of the Lighted Cross exists to glorify God by
extending God’s love to a hurting world,
seeking to produce disciples, and
to train up leaders to continue the Lord’s work.

OUR PURPOSE EXPLAINED

Extending God’s love to a hurting world

This begins with not being centered on ourselves, but focused on those who are around us. “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

At CLC we exist to minister, to share the love of God with other people. We believe that the best way to do that is, whenever possible, on a personal basis with people who we have built relationships with. This ministry will take form by lovingly caring for those who are a part of the Body of Christ, both here at CLC and in other churches, and sharing the love of God with those who we communicate with on a regular basis, while praying that the Lord brings new people into our lives to share with, as well as by helping the church support missionaries throughout the world.

Seeking to produce disciples

A disciple is a Christian who has made a commitment to place God first in their lives. It is our hope that all Christians will seek to become disciples. This commitment takes the form of devotion and obedience. Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:43)

Being devoted to the Lord means that you are willing to place God in a place of priority in your life, seeking to know Him and develop an intimate relationship with Him. Obedience to the Lord is the natural progression of developing intimacy with the Lord and meditating on His Scriptures. Because the Lord is Holy and Righteous, He cannot be around sin, so when we do things that are wrong, it acts as a wedge, separating us from God, which is why a disciple wants to be as Christ-like as possible.

To train up leaders to continue the Lord’s work

At CLC we know that there is more than enough work to go around, so we continually seek to help mature disciples into leaders. We see leaders as those who are seeking to be an example of how to live a Christ-like life.

A leader is one who is always ready to serve in the name of the Lord Jesus and their presence motivates others to want to do the same.
